University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust Strategy

Join our Big Conversation and help shape University Hospitals Sussex's five-year strategy.

we want to hear from you

We're developing our new wide-ranging five-year strategy for University Hospitals Sussex (UHSussex). We want to build a trust that best serves the needs of our patients, staff, partners and local communities.

As one of the largest trusts in the country, we need a strategy that helps our hospitals contribute to local and national priorities, putting the needs of people in Sussex at the heart of what we do. Fundamentally, we want you to have the best, safest care possible.

To do this well, we need to listen to as many people as possible which is why we’ve launched our Big Conversation. The feedback you give us will help us to set out our strategy for 2025-2030.

Our strategy will help us to:

  • understand the needs and priorities of patients, carers and the wider community
  • make the most of our many assets and strengths
  • develop our plans to tackle the larger challenges we face across the NHS.

How you can get involved

Through our Big Conversation, we want to hear from two groups of people - patients and people in our local communities across Brighton & Hove and West Sussex, and also health, care and community sector workers.

We have developed two quick to complete online surveys to capture your feedback. Just choose the survey that best describes you:

This is your chance to help create a healthcare system that truly meets your needs and expectations.

If you would like to be kept up to date as we continue to develop our new Trust strategy over the coming months then please email uhsussex.communications@nhs.net with your full name, whether you are a patient, member of the public or healthcare professional and your preferred email address for us to contact you.

Who's listening

“Fundamentally, our task is to give the best, safest care possible to everyone who needs to come into any of our hospitals. And we can only do that if we are inclusive, if we listen to everyone – that is why we want to hear from as many patients, carers and communities as possible.

“It’s vital that any new strategy is meaningful to all our local communities, while tackling some of the larger healthcare challenges. Please tell us what you think about our services, and what you want from us in the future – the people who use our services are better placed than anyone else to know what works, and what we need to change.”

What's next

From hearing the thoughts of a wide range of people we’ll be able to shape the next stage of developing our new strategy knowing that the voices of those we serve are at the heart of our strategic decisions.

Our new patient-centered strategy will address the most critical challenges facing us and the NHS as a whole and make the most of opportunities available to us to deliver improvement and innovation. We look forward to sharing this with you and taking you on our journey.
