Women's Health Programme
Women and girls make up more than 50 per cent of the UK population. In 2021, a national survey undertaken by the Department of Health and Social Care suggested that the vast majority of women in this country (84 per cent) do not feel that they are always listened to by healthcare professionals.
The priorities included within the strategy were informed by survey responses from around 100,000 women and girls as well as evidence from organisations representing women and girls. Point one of the plan is ‘ensuring women’s voices are heard.’ Other priorities include improving access to services and addressing disparities in outcomes amongst women. We know that some groups and communities of women face specific barriers to services and poorer experiences and outcomes.
NHS Sussex is working to understand the experiences of women and girls on health and care services to improve health outcomes for all women and girls, and the way in which the health and care system engages and listens to all women and girls.
